The firm

Mohamed Ahmed Metwaly founded M.A.C.G in Cairo in 2006. What began as an audit practice now covers audit and assurance, taxation, financial and management consulting, transaction services, accounting, and corporate legal work, from offices in Cairo and Port Said.

The firm has audited and advised manufacturers, contractors, food producers, chemical and oil businesses, real estate developers and government bodies. Several have been clients for over a decade.

What holds it together is that every engagement has a named senior professional behind it. Work is not handed down a chain of juniors to someone who has never met the client, and nothing leaves the firm that the person responsible for it has not read in full. When you engage the firm, whoever understands your accounts is whoever you speak to.

Where we sit in the Egyptian market

Our founder's seat on the Customs and Tax Committee of the Federation of Industries of Egypt puts the firm in the room where industry raises its problems with the Egyptian Tax and Customs Authority. That is not a ceremonial position. It means we see regulatory change as it is being argued about, not after it lands in the official gazette.

Audits at M.A.C.G are led by a partner on the Central Bank of Egypt's Register of Auditors — the register that governs who may audit banks and financial institutions in this country. It is a restricted list, and a place on it means having been judged fit to audit the most heavily regulated balance sheets in Egypt. That standard does not switch off for other clients. It is the standard the whole practice works to.

Mohamed Metwaly, the firm's executive partner, holds Register of Auditors number 512 at the Central Bank of Egypt, 1617 at the Central Auditing Organization and 19565 at the Ministry of Finance. The firm is also entered on the Register of Auditors at the Suez Canal Authority Economic Zone.

The Suez Canal registration should be read alongside the Port Said office. A great deal of Egypt's new industrial and logistics investment is going into the Economic Zone, much of it foreign-owned, and all of it needing auditors who are on that register. A firm with an office in Port Said and a place on the register is positioned for that work rather than merely near it.

The firm also draws on thirty-six years spent inside the Central Auditing Organization. Its senior adviser left the Authority at the grade of First Undersecretary, served as Disclosure and Corporate Governance Expert at the Financial Regulatory Authority, and took part in preparing the Egyptian Standards on Auditing issued under Minister of Investment Decree 166 of 2008. Very few practices in Egypt can say the standards they audit to were drafted with one of their own people in the room.

Mission

To give the businesses we work with financial information they can act on, and to stand behind it.

Values

Independence. Our opinion is not for sale and not for bending. A client who wants a particular answer is better served by a different firm.
Accountability. The person who formed the view is the person who defends it — to a board, a bank, the Tax Authority or a court.
Precision.Every figure we put in writing can be traced back to a document we have seen. If we cannot trace it, we do not write it.
Continuity.Clients who have been with us for fifteen years do not re-explain their business every year. We hold what we learn.
